Big Canoe Animal Rescue fundraiser financially successful!
Big Canoe Wine Group (BCWG) sponsored a fundraiser for Big Canoe Animal Rescue (BCAR) and raised $3,500.
Held Sept. 28 at The Chimneys, 156 people had the opportunity to taste 20 French wines from various regions in France and enjoy food by Taste of the Town. BCAR team Liz Wintter, kennel manager, Tom Attaway, medical director and Joe Young, secretary shared the stage with two rescue dogs, Kylie and Buffy. Presenting the check from BCWG is writer and wine group member Wayne Crawford.
BCAR is a no-kill shelter for homeless dogs and cats in the Big Canoe community. The 28 year organization’s current leadership team was delighted to receive the funds which they can put to immediate use on Kuranda dog beds and medical emergencies that can be a considerable expense for BCAR. The facility can shelter eight dogs and a higher cat crew in the relatively new, 2015, cat shelter adjacent to the dog kennel. Last year 48 dogs and 44 cats were placed in forever homes. Many animals find homes with Big Canoe families, but through the internet, animals get homes as far away as Michigan or with visiting grandchildren viewing animals at events like the Octoberfest.
All the animals taken in are evaluated with health checks, physical appearance, and socialization skills before finding suitable homes for their adoption. Give financial donations to BCAR when you can.
