Veterans Day Parade Nov. 11 to honor our veterans

On Monday, Nov. 11 Pickens County will observe Veterans Day by honoring all veterans who have served our great nation.

Our celebration of veterans will begin with a rousing parade down Main Street at 10 a.m. The parade, hosted by American Legion Post 149, is open to all participants and everyone is encouraged to participate. Registration is open and there are no fees. If marching or riding in a parade has always been your dream, now is your chance. The parade will line up at 9 a.m. behind the Jasper United Methodist Church and step off at 10 a.m. Contact Steve Whitt, Parade Coordinator at 404-387-4109 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to register or to get more details.

Immediately following the parade, join the veterans and parade participants at our Veterans Memorial located at Lee Newton Park. There will be a ceremony and patriotic music.

Come be part of the celebration and show the patriotism our county is known for. Our county is honored to be the home of over 3,000 veterans who make up over 12 percent of our population. That is one of the highest percentages in the nation. It’s obvious that veterans love Pickens County. Let’s return that love and say thank you for their part in defending our freedoms.

All individuals, organizations and clubs are invited to participate in the parade and festivities.

We hope the county will line Main Street to honor and show appreciation for the “All who gave some and the some who gave all.”
