“I am naming Judy Harvey and John Sneve as co-Rotarians of the year for the Rotary Club of Jasper,” stated President Margaret Defrancisco, “because of their tireless efforts in their offices and work behind the scenes.” She made the announcement at the club’s annual Transition Dinner on June 18.
The Rotarian of the Year award is given to members who exhibit Service Above Self in their daily activities and who promote Rotary by their actions and involvements. Harvey serves as Bulletin Editor, Club Programs Chair and Webmaster. Sneve is a past president of his home club in Louisiana and has served as secretary under multiple Jasper Rotary Club presidents.
Defrancisco said of Harvey, “You are a gift to this club and community. With undying gratitude to you I say thank you so very much for all your incredible and tireless work.” She made additional comments concerning Sneve stating, “We could not do what we do without your keeping excellent track of members, guests, badges all the while with great humor.”
Harvey became a Rotarian in 2016 and was sponsored by Steve Lawrence. Responding to the award Harvey said, “I am extremely proud to be recognized by an organization that does so much good via Rotary’s 1.2 million business and professional leaders.” She added, “I was attracted by Rotary’s guiding principle of “Service Above Self” along with tenets embodied in the ‘Four-Way Test’, as they describe the manner in which I have attempted to live my life, both personally and professionally.”
Sneve became a Rotarian following his dad’s example of being a Rotarian in 1981 in Louisiana where he served as president of his club. He joined the Rotary Club of Jasper because “our club is so special in giving, being kind, having an accepting attitude and desire not to be just members but friends.” Defrancisco said about Sneve, “I will forever hear his “Go Tigers” as the closing refrain of God Bless America sung weekly at the club. This is Sneve’s second Rotarian of the Year award from the Jasper Club.
