Pickens County Young Life banquet set for Oct. 19

Pickens County Young Life will hold its annual fundraising banquet from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19 at Sharp Top Cove in Jasper.

Pickens County Young Life is an outreach ministry to middle school and high school kids. To spend time developing friendships, Young Life staff and volunteer leaders go where kids are: football games, school lunches, band concerts, and dance recitals. Clubs, which are high energy gatherings, are held all school year and leaders go to weekend camps with kids and week-long camps in the summer. In Young Life, staff and leaders invest in relationships that last long after kids graduate from high school.

Young Life and WyldLife (middle school) clubs have started back up for the school year. Young Life meets every other Monday night at 7:47 p.m. at 35 W. Church Street and WyldLife meets at the middle schools on Friday afternoons.

Small group Bible studies for high school students, called Campaigners, meet on a weekly basis for various grade levels. Leaders want to emphasize to their Campaigner groups the importance of serving others. Just recently some sophomore, junior and senior youth along with their leaders made brownies to sell to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Houston. They made over $1,000 that will be sent to Houston Young Life to help families in need and possibly teen moms and their babies.
