BOC announces schedule for 2018 budget hearings, increase/millage rate hearing
Dawson County Board of Commissioners will hear budget requests beginning August 6 in the Assembly Room of the Dawson County Government Center.
The purpose of the hearings is for the county’s constitutional officers and department heads to present their financial needs to the board.
Commission Chair Billy Thurmond established the open hearing policy in 2017 and as a result, citizens have an opportunity to hear the various presentations.
In other board news, the board of commissioners announced its intention to leave the current millage rate of 8.138 unchanged, which would increase the 2018 property taxes it will levy this year by 10.08 percent over the rollback millage rate.
Public hearings will be held August 9 at 4:00 p.m. and August 16 at 6:00 p.m. in the Commissioners Meeting Room at the Dawson County Government Center, 25 Justice Way, Dawsonville, Ga.
Georgia law requires three public hearings to be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions on the increase. The first hearing was held on August 2.
