Georgia State Route 136 is scheduled to open this week.

In an August 6 email to Smoke Signals Katie Strickland, District One Communications Officer said “The scheduled opening is Friday, August 11.”

There had been reports the bridge was to have opened Friday, August 4, but Strickland confirmed that it had not.

By June of this year the driving surface of the bridge was poured. Construction of the approaches where the roadway meets up with the bridge began in July. The project was awarded in May 2016 with completion scheduled for August 31, 2017 to E.R. Snell of Snellville, GA for the contract amount of$ 2.6 million, according to Strickland.

Taken on August 5, 2017, the project nears completion.
