Check out ‘Music of our Lifetimes’ on Inside the Gates Radio 24X7
By Craig Looney
Calling all Big Canoe residents. If you have not yet checked out your very own community radio station, you need to give Inside the Gates Radio a try. We broadcast the greatest "Music of our Lifetimes," 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our sincere goal is to engage more of our friends and neighbors in our station, both in active listening and even further, should you have any desire to become involved as a volunteer.
Two weeks ago, Inside the Gates Radio was contacted by a very generous part-time resident who wanted to donate CDs to the station. We have been going through the CD's and have incorporated a good bit of the music into our existing library. We are looking for great music to round out our library and CDs are the best medium to facilitate that goal. Of course, we can't put everything in our library. At the core, our current library focuses on the very best of rock music from the 60s through today, with special emphasis on the 60s, 70s and early 80s. We invite you to listen and get a feel for the eclectic mix that currently graces our library. Should you have some music you think would fit, please contact Craig Looney through our website www.insidethegatesradio.com
Or perhaps you have a desire to do more. We have been contacted by a few part-time residents that have already expressed a desire to perhaps become volunteer DJs once they get here full time. If you have interest in that as well, please don't hesitate to let us know.
We had great live shows last Sunday with Shiraz Alikhan’s, “San Francisco Nights” show that delightfully shared great music from the Bay Area and a special focus on rock music played in various movies.
Craig Looney's, Looney's Tunes immediately followed as we shared music that was just plain fun and some of the reasons why music is so much fun. We also had a great 'Battle of the Bands" as David Bowie went up against the great Dire Straits leader, Mark Knopfler. David Bowie was declared the winner after a flurry of ballots that were counted on time with no errors!
What's going on this week for live shows? We are thrilled to announce the return of Dinnis Keefe on Saturday night. He had a show all lined up for last Saturday, but as you all know—Snowpalooza forced us to cancel.
- Our lineup this week:
Saturday, February 15, 6:30 - Dinnis Keefe's Saturday Night Soiree (he might even introduce a new show title). If you've not listened to Dinnis in the past, you are in for an absolute treat. Join him and you will certainly appreciate the great music and stories that he lived as a DJ for much of his working career.
- Sunday, February 16, 4:30 - Shiraz Alikhan's, “San Francisco Nights” gets our live Sunday schedule going. In honor of Black History Month, Shiraz will have some celebrated artists to share with us. And of course, he will always share the best of the San Francisco Bay Area music that he lived back in the day.
- Sunday, February 16, 6:30 - Craig Looney's, “Looney's Tunes” will not only have his attempts at pulling the best of the best from our library, but will also highlight some of the new additions to our collection that you will surely enjoy. A continuation of the fun segment—The Battle of the Bands—is also on the menu.
A couple of fun facts from last week's Looney's Tunes:
*This artist did not play baseball but he loved watching it and hearing the stories his father would tell him about the legendary New York Yankees. This song honored the players that were heroes to him as long as he can remember. Name the artist and the song.
*This song had a title and lyrics inspired by an often-used expression by Jackie Gleason. (Hint: It is not, “To the moon, Alice”) The song created a fantasy world where the artist was the object of all his woman's affections. Name the artist and song.
You can find the answers on the blog of our website. Please join us for all the fun and entertainment that is Inside the Gates Radio. Listen any time of day, but hope to certainly catch you during our live shows this coming weekend.
