Big Canoers are lucky to have lots of indoor places to enjoy during the rainy days of January. The Wellness Center and indoor tennis courts are favorite locations during a rainy spell.
According to Joe Raley, one of Big Canoe’s weather watchers, there’s been 5 inches of rain so far in January and we’re just half way through the month. “It rained hard last Saturday night, Jan. 11 when the storm went through, but the hard rain didn't last very long,” said Raley. See Raley’s chart below showing rainfall in Big Canoe through Jan. 13.
According to the National Atlas, Georgia averages about 50.78 inches of rain a year and the coldest day of the year is Jan. 23 when temps usually range from 35 to 53 degrees Fahrenheit.
March is typically the wettest month of the year in Georgia with an average 5.38 inches of rain and October is the driest with 3.11 inches. (source: www.weather.com). The Weather Channel is predicting rain in north Georgia until Thursday, Jan 16.
Every month Raley and Bill McClatchey provide Big Canoe specific weather information to Smoke Signals to share with the community. Look for these charts in the first part of the News section each month.
