Big Canoe Kickball League now has four teams

By Vince Giordano

We launched the adult Big Canoe Kickball League back in early May on a whim, thinking folks might come out for a game or two remembering the fun they shared back in middle school.

We quickly were surprised to see the growing number of people coming out each week, both out of curiosity and looking for a co-ed sport that didn’t require any equipment or have a steep learning curve.

Now, as we wind down the first season—after having created four teams: Captain Morgan’s Menace to Sobriety, Ballbarians, Lucky Strikers and the Kick Monkeys—I can honestly say, the participation and enthusiasm have been an overwhelming surprise.

We are now in the early stages of planning a final event on Saturday, Sept. 28 with both games and then a gathering at the clubhouse for burgers and beers for players, family members and fans.

Our next regular season will kickoff Saturday April 4, 2020 and run through June 6 with playoffs the following Saturday, June 13.

We will begin to recruit players after the first of the year in hopes of creating additional teams inside the gates while also reaching out to Bent Tree to see if they are interested forming a team or two as well.
