Set sail with Big Canoe’s model yacht club
“It is not the ship so much as the skillful sailing that assures the prosperous voyage”
– George William Curtis
The skillful sailors of the fast- growing Big Canoe Model Yacht Club (BCMTC) will compete in the next monthly regatta Sept. 7 from the point on Lake Sconti, weather permitting.
With growing interest in the POA sanctioned organization, building from kits has caught the interest in the community’s master woodworkers as well as apprentices. For those who want to learn more or maybe just hang around the skippers and their boats, there is a social membership available. The club welcomes any Big Canoe residents with an interest in sailing, radio-controlled boats or RC racing, whether the owner of a boat or not. Members without boats can run races and regattas and join in on social events and monthly meetings at the Village Station, third Friday of each month at 3 p.m. There is a modest membership and initiation fee for joining.
Other regattas for 2019 are planned for Oct. 19 and Nov. 19 at Lake Sconti on the point facing the clubhouse. For more information see the club’s official website, www.bcmyc.org.
