Fireworks barge is constructed and moved to Lake Sconti
When Big Canoers worried about fireworks on Lake Petit for July Fourth upsetting the eagle family on Eagle Island, Toby Jones got his hammer and drill.
The director of roads and trails for the POA, Jones used his other talents in the construction of a barge on a pontoon base for the fireworks. For years Jones has been certified to shoot the fireworks from Lake Petit. He also oversees the storage and tight security of the exploding holiday delight in the maintenance yard.
Jill Philmon, Big Canoe GM, said plans had already been made to move the fireworks to Lake Sconti in 2019 but with the new Eagle nest on the island in Lake Petit, the move was pushed up a year.
