Leadership Big Canoe (LBC) graduated 25 participants—its 13th class—on Friday, April 27. The LBC program seeks “to provide specific education and hands-on training designed to give current and emerging community leaders opportunities to become knowledgeable about Big Canoe and to enhance their leadership skills.”

Each LBC class breaks into teams to examine specific issues or potential problems facing Big Canoe during the program and then comes up with recommendations that could be followed up by the POA. This year’s presentations and the team members studying the four issues included:

  • Short Term Rentals within the Big Canoe Community - team members included Suzanne Harman, Rick Himes, Jim Billmeyer, Babs Price. Elizabeth Thompson, Bob White and Meg Rooney, advisor to the team.
  • Traffic Management and Safety - team members included Dave Patton, David Brousard, Juliana Sproles, Grant Grimes, Diane LaCharitie, James Knapp, and Jim Mullan.
  • Big Canoe’s participation in Pickens and Dawson counties - team members included Robyn Bish, Wayne Crawford, Bill Nelson, Betty Nichols and Ralph Thompson.
  • Firewise Project - team members included Bob Schwall, Howard Austin, Hal Bish, Ken Briggs, Pete Huber, Mike Kelley, Elizabeth Thompson, Gay Abbott, LBC Liaison and Grant Grimes, BCERT Liaison.
