Gala guests enjoyed bidding on a host of exquisite items

The Legacy of Caring Gala and Auction was recently held at The Clubhouse at Lake Sconti in Big Canoe. Sandy and Jeff Downing were honorary co-chairs. The masters of ceremony were former University of Georgia head football coach Vince Dooley and his wife, Barbara Dooley. The evening will included live and silent auctions and entertainment by Broadway actor, Courtenay Collins.

The Legacy of Caring Marketplace and Tour of Homes on Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May, 19 are the upcoming events. Five unique homes will be on tour for this year’s event. Tour of Homes tickets costs $30.00 and can be purchased at www.bigcanoelegacy.org or in Big Canoe on the days of the tour. Buses will transport ticket holders from the Big Canoe Chapel to the homes. Plan to start the tour no later than 1p.m. to see all five homes. Tour homes close at 4 p.m. on both days.

The Legacy Marketplace will feature dozens of juried vendors offering an array of crafts, trinkets, and treasures. The Bear Paw Bakery sells cookies, pies, breads, and cakes and Crazy Bear Café offers breakfast or lunch. The Collectors’ Corner offers the finest in gently used accessories for home and entertaining.

The Legacy of Caring Book Nook in the lower level of Broyles Center is the place to find exceptionally well-priced, nearly new books, DVDs and CDs. Pat Papke and Elaine DeNiro are busy preparing books for the sale and donations are closed at this time. The Book Nook has been scaled down, but shoppers can still find fiction–hardback and trade paperbacks ($2) and paperbacks ($1), nonfiction, history, biographies, religion, classics, North Georgia area books, children’s books(small and board books, 2 for $1; larger hardcovers, $2; and paperbacks, $1), coffee table books ($3), books on CD ($3), DVDs ($2), and CD music ($1). The brown bag sale from previous years available at the end of the event will not be offered this year, so shop early.

The Legacy of Caring is aprogram of the Big Canoe Chapel Women Guild. Proceeds benefit charitable organizations in Pickens and Dawson counties that focus on the well-being of women and children.
