Community Scrapbook – Volunteers at work

Volunteers often claim they receive more than they can give when they volunteer. Photos by Rita Van Fleet

SB 1 Legacy ChristmasSm

The Big Canoe Chapel Women’s Guild has raised more than $1,700,000 in the last 29 years to donate to women and children’s programs in Pickens and Dawson counties. In 2018, they plan their best year ever with Casseroles to Go, Christmas Sale, the Gala with auctions, Tour of Homes and Marketplace.

SB 2 Travelsm

The Travel Club is one of several programs sponsored by the Program and Events Committee for the benefit of Big Canoe residents. Great Decisions, TED Talks, and the Knowledge Series are all planned and conducted by volunteers.

SB 3 Easter

Several holiday programs – Easter, 4th of July, Trunk or Treat and the Christmas program – are all set up and conducted by volunteers.

SB 4 Garden Tour

Wildflower Bunch volunteers conduct an annual plant sale, holiday boutique event and garden tour of several homes to raise funds to support several environmental and beautification programs.

SB 5 Hook FishSM

A joint venture of several Big Canoe groups and private businesses, children compete for the largest and most fish awards while enjoying a morning and afternoon with their families.

SB 6 Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest is a fun-filled celebration for the whole family organized and set up by volunteers. Food, drink, music, games, face-painting, and an avenue of vendors offer something for everyone.
