‘It ain’t been easy’
|A slammed truck—‘Tis the season for truckloads of boxes arrive at the Big Canoe Postal Facility. Even with the new postal lockers, there’s just not enough room to store the quantity of packages received each day. Please check your post office box daily during the holiday season. Postal service to Big Canoe this holiday season is best put by Jasper Postmaster Michael Jordan as the snow continued to mount. “It ain’t been easy.”
With the epic snow and contractors, including FEDX, UPS and USPS, not allowed in the gates, packages and mail like the falling snow continued to pile up. Saturday, Dec. 9 Jordan said this year, after checking with Sherri Hulsey, rural carrier for Big Canoe, there seems to be an increase in the number of packages and mail coming into Big Canoe this holiday season.
Jordan said some days it takes two trucks a day to get all the packages into Big Canoe. Even on Sundays Jordan said the postal truck arrives only with packages—no mail. There are three carriers for Big Canoe and Jordan said he hopes to be able to find another person temporarily just to hand out packages at the door and allow the carriers to continue to distribute the mail to the boxes.
Even with the recent addition of package boxes there are not enough storage areas to accommodate all the gifts and on-line orders coming into the Big Canoe Postal Facility. Hulsey asks Big Canoe post office box holders to please check mail delivery daily, especially this time of year, and free up the package boxes as fast as possible.
