J. Alan Neal
October 2, 1934 – December 27, 2019
J. Alan Neal, 85, passed away on December 27, 2019, due to complications from Parkinson’s Disease. Neal was born in Chattanooga, Tenn. on October 2, 1934. He graduated from the Baylor School in Chattanooga and then graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1956. He was an active Georgia Tech alumnus his entire adult life.
After graduation from Georgia Tech, Neal served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy for three years. He then joined the Trust Company Bank of Georgia and was a highly respected banker for Trust Company Bank, later SunTrust Bank, in Atlanta and Macon, Georgia for more than 40 years. In his last position, he was president of the SunTrust Bank of Middle Georgia. He was an avid golfer and served as president of the Idle Hour Country Club in Macon.
Alan and his wife Lynn of 63 years owned a home on Ridgeview Drive in Big Canoe from 1993 until 2015. They enjoyed entertaining their daughter, Pam Neal Fellows, son-in-law, Hank Fellows, their three grandchildren, Chris, Susie, and Thomas, and their many Georgia Tech and Macon friends at their Big Canoe mountain home. The Neals also enjoyed playing golf with their family and friends at Big Canoe.
He is survived by his wife, daughter, Pam Neal Fellows, son-in-law, Hank Fellows, grandchildren, Chris Fellows (Kathryn), Susie Tulloch (Ross), and Thomas Fellows, and his great-grandchildren, Henry, Amelia, and Robert Fellows, and Maddie Tulloch.
A memorial service was held for Alan at Patterson & Son Spring Hill Chapel in Atlanta on January 4, 2020.
