WPSA names LTG (Ret) Steve Arnold 2017 Distinguished Graduate
The West Point Society of Atlanta named LTG (Ret) Steve Arnold its 2017 Distinguished Graduate during its April 1 Founders’ Day Dinner at the Capital City Club in Atlanta. The award is an etching of the West Point crest on gray granite, similar to the walls at West Point.
WPSA Distinguished Graduates are described as “graduates in the geographic area covered by the WPSA who showed throughout their lives the ideals of West Point and distinguished themselves as a cut above the rest.”
Arnold distinguished himself throughout his military service. In choosing his branch of service, “he selected the Infantry, Airborne, Ranger and Strategist. LTG Arnold served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded two Silver Stars and two Purple Hearts. He commanded at every level: from a Company Commander in the Republic of Vietnam to G3 planner for the CIC [Commander in Chief General Norman Schwarzkopf] . . . to Commander of the 10th Mountain Division in . . . Somalia; and finally, to Commander of the US Army Central Command and Third US Army. Most recently, LTG Arnold was inducted into the US Army Ranger Hall of Fame.” He served in the US Army for over 30 years on active duty.
Arnold and his wife Susan live in Big Canoe.
