Great Decisions groups to form for Fall 2017
There has been sufficient interest at Big Canoe in forming a third Great Decisions discussion group on global affairs for Fall 2017. Two discussion groups totaling over 40 Big Canoe residents were completed earlier this year.
Using a program from the Foreign Policy Association (fpa.org) there are eight weekly sessions—each two hours in length—where the group meets, views a background DVD and discusses a well-researched chapter from the text. Participants must order the $25 discussion guide prior to the initial meeting.
The subjects for this year are incredibly timely including: the European Union, Trade Policy, South China Sea, Saudi Arabia, Geopolitics of Energy, Latin American, Afghanistan/Pakistan and Nuclear Security.
There are hundreds of these on-going yearly group discussions scattered across the United States. The Great Decisions group was first offered to all Big Canoe residents starting in 2016 through the efforts of Big Canoe residents BJ and Craig McConnell. Great Decisions is offered as another opportunity for a life-long learning experience under the auspices of Knowledge Series. Bob Anderson is the liaison representing The Knowledge Series for this project.
If you are interested in joining Great Decisions in the Fall of 2017, contact Bob at firstname.lastname@example.org. Bob has participated or facilitated in all the discussion groups in 2016 and 2017. The program will meet near weekly on Thursdays starting September 7th from 1-3 pm in the Club Room at the Sconti Clubhouse. Enrollment is limited to 25, so if interested please make your reservation early.
Several Great Decisions discussion groups will be also be formed in 2018 with a series of eight new timely foreign policy topics. Announcements and registrations for next year will be published in January 2018.
