New car club formed at Big Canoe for people who like cars
By Wayne Tidwell
A new car club is forming at Big Canoe. And you don’t need a special car to join it.
Allan DeNiro came up with an idea after entering his 1965 Corvette in the Legacy of Caring’s May 20 Marketplace car show.
“I had my car their and spent eight or nine hours standing around and it occurred to me that a whole lot of people came up to me and didn’t necessarily have a “special” car but man they wanted to talk about a car,” DeNiro said. “I just thought to myself well heck, we ought to have a car club. You don’t have to have a car, you just have to like cars.”
He put a sign up at the postal facility and began to make calls. Word of mouth has resulted in more than a dozen responses so far. On June 15, six of the “founding members” got their cars together for an impromptu photo.
“I think it would be fun but I don’t want to have too many rules,” DeNiro said about the informal club.
So he came up with the following:
1. Have Fun
2. No need to have a "special car" - just like cars and car people
3. No dues
4. Events and ideas open - come when you can, and,
5. No more rules!
He suggests a monthly get-together of some kind whether it be a road trip to some destination or lunch or just a gathering to socialize and talk cars.
