Pickens County Young Life will hold its annual fundraising banquet from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19 at Sharp Top Cove in Jasper.

Lora Engles, who is working on a master sommelier degree, is the fine wine manager for restaurants for Empire Distributors, and Ambassador for winemaker Maison Louis Latour in Georgia. She was in the Burgandy, wine producing area of France recently talking with winemakers about coming to Atlanta.

Annual Heart and Soul BBQ benefits local outreach groups

A hint of fall in the air brings out the annual Holy Smokers who fill the campus of The Holy Family Episcopal Church off Cove Road with smells of roast pig. Enjoy dinner on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. followed by live music.

Closed wooden bridge in Jasper hurts long-time restaurant icon

The closing of the wooden bridge on Main Street in Jasper has wreaked havoc on the Woodbridge Inn’s restaurant business according to owner Hans Rueffert. By the time the bridge is repaired and reopened, it will be almost six months that his business has been down 35 to 40 percent, with many people assuming the restaurant is closed.
