Holy Family hosts round-robin style organ concert in January
The monthly concert series at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family continues on Sunday, Jan. 15, at 3:30 p.m. with the dedication of splendid new digital additions to the church's Austin pipe organ, made possible by the generous gift of anonymous donors. The state-of-the-art installation includes two full digitally sampled pipe organs: a large E. M. Skinner organ from Boston and an elegant instrument by English maker Binns. Both instruments are fully integrated with the original pipe organ.
The concert will be a round-robin affair featuring Holy Family organist John King Carter, Decatur Presbyterian organist Matt McMahan, and Dock Anderson, organist at St. George Catholic Church in Newnan. Kennesaw State trumpet faculty member Dr. Douglas Lindsey will also participate. Music from different styles and periods will be presented to showcase some of the tremendous variety which has been acquired with this new addition.
Following the concert, Choral Evensong will be sung by the Parish Choir, during which the formal dedication of the organ addition will take place. We cordially invite the whole Pickens County community and beyond to join us in our celebration. A reception will follow.
The Episcopal Church of the Holy Family is located on Griffith Road, off Cove Road near Grandview Road in Jasper. For more information, please see www.holyfamilyepiscopalchurch.net or call 770-893-4525.
