Holy Family presents KSU Jazz Five on Mar. 19

The Episcopal Church of the Holy Family proudly presents a Kennesaw State University jazz combo in a free concert 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 19. The KSU Jazz Five consists of students playing trumpet, sax, piano, bass, and drums. The group will play a program of traditional and modern jazz repertoire.

The Kennesaw State University Jazz Combo program was started in 2006 and currently features seven jazz combos and a jazz guitar ensemble. Students in the KSU jazz combo program learn traditional and modern jazz repertoire and are encouraged to find their own voice through writing original arrangements and compositions. KSU Jazz Combos have been featured at the Jazz Education Network national conference; the Georgia Music Educators Association in service clinic in Savannah; the International Festival of University Theatre in Casablanca, Morocco; and multiple performances in Montepulciano, Italy in 2014.  In January 2017, KSU’s top jazz combo recorded a set of original music at the Murray Sound Lab for an upcoming release.

Following the concert, the group will accompany the Holy Family Parish Choir as they present the Durham Jazz Evensong by Will Todd. This jazz setting of the traditional evensong texts was commissioned by St. Oswald's Church, Durham, England and first performed in 2008.

We cordially invite the whole Pickens County community and beyond to join us for this unique and free musical and worship event.

The Episcopal Church of the Holy Family is located on Griffith Road, off of Cove Road near Grandview Road in Jasper. For more information, please see www.holyfamilyepiscopalchurch.net or call 770-893-4525.

Future free concerts at Holy Family:

  • Apr. 23, 2017: Atlanta Schola Cantorum
  • May 21, 2017: joint choral program with the parish choir of St. James Episcopal Church, Marietta, Georgia.
