An anchor of the annual Legacy of Caring Marketplace is the Book Nook downstairs in the
Broyles Center.   Held over two days in mid-May, the event also featured a variety of vendors
and a Collectors Corner flea market. The charitable event is an annual fund raiser put on by

Of book nooks and classic cars

What do books and classic cars have in common? Both were in generous supply at the Legacy of Caring Marketplace. From the popular Book Nook to the parking lot full of vintage vehicles, there was something to catch the eye of most anyone who strolled through.

Kathy Samples, another Big Canoe resident, shows off her ’65 Mustang. Husband Walt was
also at the show with his ’69 Mustang. Why Mustangs? “It’s what I always wanted in High
School,” said Walt.

Brian Osgood of Big Canoe proudly displays his ’65 Cadillac DeVille at a car show held in
conjunction with the Legacy of Caring Marketplace. The May 20 show featuring more than
a dozen classic and collectible cars owned by Big Canoe residents and was held in the
parking area adjacent to the Chapel.

Rick Mitchell, a Big Canoe resident, says his ’96 Corvette is both a show car and “driver,”
meaning it is often used for daily transportation.

out 707 HP.

Jeff Downing’s ’59 XK150 Jaguar is one of eight in his collection. A Jaguar enthusiast for
the past 30 years, Jeff says he typically sells one of the cars in his collection and buys
another every year.

A ’57 Porsche “Speedster” replica is owned by Steve Moranos of Big Canoe.

owned a number of MGs over the years.
