Taking a shot into cyberspace, the Big Canoe Artists’ Club recently launched their own website, www.BigCanoeArtists.com to showcase members’ work and to offer artwork and photographs for sale. With more than 45 regionally acclaimed artists working in various genres, the Big Canoe club has wide appeal.

On December 1, down will fall the artists’ foliage now on exhibit at the Black Bear Pub. The Artists’ Club will decorate pub halls and walls with an artist’s choice collection of small works perfect for holiday gifting. The club has been exhibiting their work in the pub for almost a year, changing galleries every month or two. There is also an on-going club exhibit at the Fitness Center.

With December being a party month, the club won’t hold an official meeting, although plans are forming for a January critique session. Usually the Artists’ Club meets the first Thursday morning of each month. Watch bulletin boards or check their website for meeting dates and program plans.

At their November meeting, landscape architect Cynthia Hendry compared her design work to a blank canvas, something all artists can relate to. She spoke of the connection of art to landscaping, highlighting composition, color, texture and layout leading the eye to garden beauty.

Several Big Canoe artists laid claim to fame recently. Sara Lindkrantz and Linda Stokes won Awards of Merit in Photography at the Southern Appalachian Artists’ Guild Second National Juried Show. Fred Dorr was awarded Honorable Mention in the 2-D category
.
Sara Lindkrantz also won second-place in the Altered category at the Bowen Center’s Relics photography show.

Finally, Lisa Schnellinger won second-place in Photography at the Sharptop Arts Association members’ show.

New artists are always welcome to join this bevy of black berets, even as appreciative observers!
