Local talent lauded over hill and vale
By Alice Eachusaeachus@bigcanoenews.com Big Canoe artists are painting the town(s) red – everywhere! Along with an always exciting gallery of works on display at the Big Canoe Fitness Center, members of the Big Canoe Artists’ Club are movin’ on out. Fred Dorr has a one-man show of 16 of his watercolor paintings at The Gallery by Vantage Point Studios in Canton. The show debuted with an artist reception on March 28, which was attended by many Big Canoers who enjoy Fred’s interpretations of the great outdoors and its inhabitants. The show will hang through April 27 so there’s still time to catch it. At Full Circle Solutions in Jasper, Lisa Schnellinger is hosting a spring photography exhibit titled Simple Gifts. The gallery is open on Saturdays from 12-4 p.m. or by appointment. For a preview of the show, check out www.BarakaPhotos.com. Celebrating the famous first line, “I think that I shall never see…A poem as lovely as a tree,” at the Trees in Art National Exhibition in Atlanta will be artist and photographers Linda Stokes, Katie Brown and Sara Lindkrantz. It’s quite an honor to be chosen to exhibit in this first-ever show benefiting Trees Atlanta, a non-profit citizens’ group dedicated to protecting the urban environment by preserving and planting trees. The exhibit can be visited May 10-27 at the Trees Atlanta headquarters.
Speaking of trees, beech trees are the subject of a photographic commentary done by Lisa Schnellinger and can be viewed at www.ToSeeATree.com. Lisa completed an intimate year-long study of a single American beech tree. You might recognize the flora and fauna she captured – it’s close to home. Artists’ Club meets May 7

Artists meet regularly to critique each other’s works - gently, of course! At the last critique, 20 club members brought samples of their work. Watercolors, acrylics, collage and photography were reviewed and everybody went home happy. If you’re an artist or even a wanna-be, you’re welcome to join this group of black berets to enjoy the arts around Big Canoe. |
