The Rednecks captured the Mountain Rider Cup, upsetting the Hillbillies in a blowout match.  The final score was Rednecks 54 and Hillbillies 18.  Last year the Hillbillies blasted the Rednecks but could not make it two in a row.

The golfers played a match play format to determine who had the bragging rights for the next year. A three point must system was used—one point for each nine and one additional point to the match winner. Ties received one-half a point.

This year’s competition was held on November 7 and was played over the Creek and Choctaw courses.  Big Canoe beat out several mountain courses for the right to host this annual event. The Pro Shop staff of Mark Johnson, Linda Hunt and Joe Finemore provided assistance in the organizing and executing the tournament. Mark and Joe played in the tournament while Linda held down the Pro Shop fort.

The Hillbilly team was hindered by the absence of their one co-captain, BR Smith who was building cars somewhere. Carl Bauman was appointed temporary acting captain by TMRC Steering Committee.

The morning began with breakfast biscuits, coffee, and the awarding of door prizes. After the competition was completed, awards were presented to Ed Tomblin as the MVP for the day.  Ed upset a hot-playing Chuck Phillips. He was presented with The Hillbilly Putter to keep for a year.

Van Zieler won a cash award for being closest to picking the winning team and score. A summary of all the match results are as follows:

  • Group 1 H: Mark Johnson 0.0 and Ed Spence .5; R: Joe Finemore 3.0 and Bill Kinney 2.5
