The 2009 MGA Ryder Cup was a great success this year—congratulations to all who qualified! And congratulations to Sam Horner who had to withdraw from the Ryder Cup due to a schedule conflict and ended up winning the Georgia Senior Four-ball with his Member-Guest partner Gerry Grogan.

Ryder reception
Everyone was a winner at the Ryder Cup reception.
Senior Ryder Cup: John Lipkowitz, Sam W. Horner, Wally Walsh, John Farris, Ken Varisco, James Carter, Mike Bertolani, Van Zeiler, Chuck Phillips, Jack Grabenstein, Charlie Ferris, Ted Cooper, James Tanner, Robert Crouch, Dennis Dinges.

Junior Ryder Cup: Mike Domanik, John Willoughby, Bill Kinney, Ed Spence, Steve Young, Tim Moran, Ron Young, Henry Trussell, Glenn Manning, Allen E. Bates, Jim Baumgartner, John Hansen, Roland Rodriguez, Charles Wills, Carl Bauman.

With great competition and friendly rivalries the event was as good as ever. The weather couldn’t have been better and the course was in fantastic condition. The small creek behind #1 Creek will now be named Ray’s Creek in honor of Senior Co-Captain Ray Haas! Ray found the creek with his cart early the first morning during a “senior moment.”

The Juniors were led by rookie Co-Captains Mark Johnson and Joe Finemore for a decisive victory of 18-½ to 9-½, after starting out on a torrid 7-0 run on the first day of competition. The matches were tight but the Juniors held on with straight drives and clutch putts.

The Seniors worked hard to come back on the last day, but the first day deficit proved to be too much. The Seniors battled to get 6-½ points in the single matches but fell short.
