You could see toes tapping and footsies flexing as Trish Scarborough of New Beginning Therapeutic Services taught Ridgerunners all about reflexology at their January monthly meeting.

With a big map showing the topology of toes, heels and everything else you stand for, Trish led the women on a holistic tour of health and well-being. Reflexology relates every part of the body to the foot, with the exception of the foot itself. By stimulating or pressuring specific parts of the feet, a response will be generated someplace else.

Toes affect the head, the “foot–ball” hits your heart, and mid-foot talks of your middle. Heels have a lot to do with sex glands, but we already knew that somehow.

Ridgerunners were taught how to self-medicate using reflexology. Simply rolling your foot over a can of tomatoes can bring relief; better yet, ask for a foot rub from anybody near or dear.

Don Russell speaking in February
When Ridgerunners next meet on February 9, Don Russell, president of the Pickens Thrift Store and an exceptional community volunteer, will speak about the Community of Care in Pickens County.

Ridgerunners will learn how the county works to break the cycle of generational poverty so evident in our mountains.

Ridgerunners Book Clubs
 RIDGERUNNERS
There is always room for new members! In January, Joyce Paquette, Karlene Spenker, and Pat Buss joined this Big Canoe women's club. (Photo by Lassie Dye)

At the January meeting, Kaaren Arthurs spoke about her book club, The Blue Stockings. This group of a dozen women or so have been turning pages together for a long time and have a lot of fun bringing the books they read come alive for them.

Ridgerunners sponsors 18 different book clubs and welcomes all members to join one of them. Along with being intellectually challenged, book club members laugh and lunch too. Call Kaaren (706) 268-3460 for more information.

Final day trip and spring luncheon
The last day trip of the year will be a visit to Wolf Mountain Vineyards and Winery on Thursday, March 4. Along with a tour and tasting, a gourmet luncheon will be served in a pastoral hillside setting. Watch the community bulletin boards for additional information about this spirited adventure.

The club year is fast coming to an end, but new members are always welcome to join. Ridgerunners meets the second Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the Dogwood Room at the Clubhouse. After the meeting, an informal lunch is offered so Ridgerunners can enjoy a social time.

The Ridgerunners’ Spring Luncheon will be at the Clubhouse on April 13. It will be time to say good-bye for the summer and the Big Canoe Woman of the Year will be announced.
