For those not in the know, the Friendship Force of Big Canoe/North Georgia is one very busy bunch of travelers. This organization is part of a worldwide network whose mission is to be a friend to the people of the world so peace and love can be furthered.

Quite a tall order, but definitely doable, one smile at a time.

In March, the Big Canoe club will host the Southeast Regional Presidents’ Forum. Then in April the club will host an exchange with a Friendship Force club from New Mexico. Margie Bowyer and her committee are working hard to make the western club’s visit a memorable experience.

On April 18, Thomas Wesley Dortch, Jr. will be the keynote speaker at the International Friendship Day activities in Big Canoe. Dortch is the chairman of the board of Friendship Force International and travels the world to promote peace.

After all their hosting, next August the Big Canoe/North Georgia club will be guests of the Friendship Force organization in Colorado Springs where their hosts have plenty of exciting activities planned. There will also be a trip to Haliburton Highlands, Ontario, Canada in the fall.

Recently Ray and Margie Bowyer, Cynthia Day and Joan Johnson enjoyed a two-week exchange in Japan.

In April, our community club will celebrate its 25th anniversary. Over the years, members have logged hundreds of thousands of miles, all in the name of peace and good will.
