ACTIVITIES and CULTURAL EVENTS COMMITTEE

Mission Statement: To develop social and civic programs to enhance the life style of the residents of Big Canoe. To provide cultural programs that will nuture the arts and civic forums that will increase political knowledge in Big Canoe

Responsibilities:

  • Adult and family social activities
  • "Symphony on the Green Concert"
  • Presentations in the arts - music, dance, theater and art
  • Coordination with Big Canoe Writers, Big Canoe Artists, and other groups concerned with the arts
  • Provide informational forums for current and prospective political representatives


COMMUNITY BETTERMENT COMMITTEE

Mission Statement: To search for methods to enhance the lifestyle of Big Canoe homeowners.

Responsibilities:

  • Residents' directory/manage Ad Sales
  • Adopt-a-Highway (Steve Tate)
  • Post office facility maintenance
  • Propane Consortium
  • Large trash disposal days
  • Maintenance of Big Canoe Atlas & Map
  • Smoke Signals Board
  • Leadership Big Canoe Board

COMMUNITY HEALTH AND WELLNESS COMMITTEE

Mission Statement: To provide services in response to the health interests and health needs of the entire Big Canoe population offering public service programs, health education, and health services.

Responsibilities:

  • CPR clinics
  • Community blood drives
  • Inoculations for residents
  • Health related courses, seminars and workshops
  • Health screening: Audiology, Blood pressure

EDUCATION COMMITTEE

Mission Statement: To provide educational programs to Big Canoe residents that will enable them to continue to grow in their knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Elderhostel
  • AARP 55 Alive Driver Safety
  • Lectures and seminars on topics of current interest
  • Family educational activities
  • Political forums and get out the vote drives

COMMUNITY LIAISON COMMITTEE

Mission Statement: To initiate and/or maintain contact with appropriate Big Canoe boards, organizations and committees for the mutual benefit of the organizations and Big Canoe residents.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain contact with POA committees
  • Serve as HOA representative to POA Long Range Planning Committee
  • Liaison with Fire Services, BCERT, Public Safety
  • Maintain contact with Dawson & Pickens County regarding issues of interest to Big Canoe
  • Serve on board of Wildcat Communities, Inc.

MEMBERSHIP  COMMITTEE

Mission Statement: To work with the chapel and POA to welcome new residents and to encourage new and existing residents to join and participate in the Homeowners' Association.

Responsibilities:

  • Solicitation of new members
  • Maintain current membership list
  • New homeowner contacts
  • Arrangements for membership meetings
  • Programs and information for new residents

PUBLIC RELATIONS AND COMMUNICATION COMMITTEE

Mission Statement: To assure, foster, promote and maintain good public relations between the Homeowners Association and the developer, Big Canoe property owners, surrounding and contiguous communities and the visitors and guests of Big Canoe.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordination of Smoke Signals articles
  • E-mail communications to members
  • Coordination with web master regarding web site
  • Smoke Signals annual dinner
  • Community calendar
  • Round the Mountain bi-weekly broadcast email and monthly SS listing
  • Maintain Resident Information Manual

SECRETARY ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintenance of Fitness Center PC
  • Maintain BC Clubs/Organizations list and update annually
  • Outstanding Service Award committee
  • Veterans' Memorial (flowers on dam for Memorial Day, July 4th, & Veterans Day
  • Assist Public Relations with Information Manual
  • Supply board meeting notes to web master for posting on HOA website.
