Area artist Alan Young
Local, award winning Bent Tree artist Alan Young will be featured at Sharptop Arts Association in a solo exhibit to kick off its 2010 Arts Series.

Young is an Atlanta native prior to moving to Pickens County. As a self-taught artist, finding his niche in the art world was difficult since he was born color blind. His first accolades came with his pen and ink sketches. Since then, he has become an accomplished wildlife artist.

His techniques now include but are not limited to pen and ink, color pencil, oils and watercolors. Young is considered one of the top wild bird artists in the Southeast.

The show begins Thursday, February 4, and runs through February 27. The opening reception, co-sponsored by Burnt Mountain Trading Company and Jasper Drugs and Gifts, will be Friday, February 5, from 5:00–7:30 pm. All are invited to attend this free event.

Young’s work will be on sale in the gallery through the run of the show. For an example of Alan’s works, please go to www.alanryoung.com. Sharptop Gallery hours are Thursdays and Fridays 12:00–4:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 10:00–2:00 p.m.; go to www.sharptopartsassociation.org to learn more about upcoming events and classes or to become a member or patron of the arts.
