In hard and uncertain economic times the residents of Big Canoe continue to remember the less fortunate within our gates and in the Tate Elementary School district.

The POA Internal fund
The annual Christmas Fund for hourly employees is a standing tradition at Big Canoe. However, this year upper management in the POA has recognized some employees on the lower end of the pay scale are struggling just to survive the high cost of living and medical needs.  The POA Internal fund
The annual Christmas Fund for hourly employees is a standing tradition at Big Canoe. However, this year upper management in the POA has recognized some employees on the lower end of the pay scale are struggling just to survive the high cost of living and medical needs.

Management has come up with a plan to help these people who serve our needs in Big Canoe. Department heads have agreed to forego Christmas presents within the offices and contribute this money instead to an internal fund for those employees who need a helping hand.

In addition to our annual Christmas fund, property owners may also participate in the Internal Fund, by contacting Debbie Pickett or Glenda Wood at the POA Administrative Office, 706/268-3346.

Angel Food Ministries comes to Jasper
Mentors at Tate Elementary School and their friends from Big Canoe are participating in feeding not only the minds but also the physical needs of the lower income families of children in the school. Through the national organization of Angel Food Ministries the PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) of Tate School has established a fund whereby boxes of nutritious meals, including fresh meats and fresh produce, are given needy families on a monthly basis.

Angel Food Ministries has recently established a distribution center at Jasper First Baptist Church. Their monthly menus appear on their website (angelfoodministries.com ) and go way beyond the basic canned goods. They offer extremely tasty and inexpensive boxes of food.

People are hungry beyond the months of November and December when the most emphasis is placed on giving food to the needy.  The Tate PTO project is year round, not just during the holiday months and is spearheaded by the school nurse, Donna Underwood. Gifts are tax deductible.

If you are interested in joining Big Canoe Mentors in the Angel Food Ministries year round project, contact Big Canoe residents Stacy Guidice (706-579-1832), Gail Hood (706-268-1891), Laura Link (706-579-1690) or Tate Nurse Donna (706-253-5010)
