Results to be announced at Dec. 6 Town Hall meeting
By Ann Dickerson
A survey about the recently failed amendment to initiate a capital reserve fund will be mailed to property owners Nov. 6-7, along with the ballots for the Big Canoe POA election. The POA Board voted Oct. 22 to include the survey in ballot envelopes, rather than post it online and/or print it in Smoke Signals.

"They're sent directly to Riverside Associates, who sends us the results." Those results will be announced at the Dec. 6 Town Hall meeting - along with the two new members of the POA Board -- and turned over to the Long Term Finance Committee (LTFC), chaired by Chuck Palmer. The LTFC will then work to come up with an alternative solution. Board directors said Palmer welcomes new members to the volunteer committee. Said Terry Bacigalupo, "It would be a shame for those who have been ultra-critical to not come forward and be a part of the process as opposed to being outside and being critical of this process."Palmer said he wanted new members who "are part of the solution, not the problem. Help us come up with something that will be approved next time instead of being voted down." The proposed amendment to the covenants, which was voted down in September, would have assessed a ¾ percent capital initiation fee on the sales price of all lots and homes in the community. The POA Board has said a capital reserve fund is needed to allow the POA to pay down existing debt, maintain the community's infrastructure and fund reserves for emergencies. Other Board actions: The POA Board will not hire a professional search firm to find Big Canoe's new general manager, at least not initially, Seferian announced at the Oct. 22 meeting. "We have a lot of experience on our GM search committee, so our primary method will be networking," said Seferian, who is chairman of the committee that includes fellow Board members Fred Omundson and Terry Bacigalupo, as well as George Kowalski, John Farris and Debbie Pickett. "We always have the option of engaging a search firm later." Seferian said the committee had already reviewed more than 400 personal experience lists/summaries of candidates for the position. Only a handful of those prospects are considered qualified for the position, he said. Bacigalupo noted that they are seeking candidates who have experience managing a budget of $10 million-plus, which considerably limits the search. The search committee meets weekly to peruse resumes and discuss the search. Roger Klask has agreed to serve as interim general manager until a new GM can be hired. |
