Women raising funds through Atlanta Breast Cancer 3-Day

Big Canoe resident Linda Carrig will join thousands of other dedicated men and women at the Atlanta Breast Cancer 3-Day benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust, which will take place October 24-26 in Atlanta.

After months of training and fundraising, participants will walk 60 miles during three days to raise awareness and funds for critical research and community outreach programs. Linda is walking with her daughter, Liz Carrig, and her sister, Jody Cunningham of Rome.

Jody is a breast cancer survivor and is one of the inspirations for their walk. Jody battled the disease without insurance, doing it the "no-frills" way while working her horse farm and caring for more than 20 animals. The trio is also walking in memory of Teresa Carrig, a sister-in-law, who lost her battle to cancer three years ago at the age of 46.

"As a Breast Cancer 3-Day participant, I have an opportunity to support breast cancer survivorship, honor those who lost their lives to the disease, and ultimately, I have an enormous impact on awareness and funding for breast cancer research and community outreach programs," Carrig said. "The Breast Cancer 3-Day is challenging and fun, and the memory of my personal accomplishment will last a lifetime."

To help prepare for the Breast Cancer 3-Day, each walker is supported by coaches and online assistance that aid in all aspects of training and fundraising, while clinics, meetings and training walks provide ongoing support. Each participant in the event commits to raising a minimum of $2,200.
