Visits to new and old places open visual vistas for the Photo Club

By Alice Eachus
Along with wearing the latest school fashions and sporting shiny new shoes that pinched like heck, the first day of school usually brought the first writing assignment of the new school year - "How I Spent My Summer Vacation."

Things don't change much. Digital cameras have created photojournalists out of aspiring journalists nowadays. When members of the Big Canoe Photographic Society headed out of town, or simply stayed put, cameras were packed along with the sunscreen.

What an opportunity to find new subject matter and hone skills! Then come home and have images unlike any others.

Katie Brown, Randy Lewis, Brian Osgood and Lisa Schnellinger are sharing some of their summer escapades with us. For additional photos, visit the Society's blog at www.photoblog.com/photogroup. Enjoy!

This snowy summer scene was taken at Logan Pass on Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park. What a great name for a road! (Photo by Randy Lewis) Logan Pass
All the hotels in Glacier Park were built between 1910-1920. The Glacier Park Inn looks suspiciously like an alpine retreat. (Photo by Randy Lewis) Glacier Park Inn
Ah, what a sunrise can inspire! Soaring glacial peaks seen from Many Glacier Lodge made sitting on the porch rocking away an incredibly spiritual experience. (Photo by Randy Lewis) Many Glacier Sunrise
What speaks of summer more than a kid catching a fish? Brian Osgood’s son Nick proudly shows his catch of the day. (Photo by Brian Osgood) Nick Osgood with Fish
Family reunions take up many lazy-dazy summer weekends. Gathering the clan in scenic Maine was the choice for the Osgood family. (Photo by Brian Osgood) Maine Family Reunion
Time away is good for practicing art photography. This Panama City pool is a geometric study in color. (Photo by Brian Osgood) Panama City Pool
Katie and Ivan Brown took a trip see the Hobby Ebberly Telescope near Marathon, Texas. This scientific marvel is one of the world’s largest optical telescopes. Katie’s photo was taken at sunset. (Photo by Katie Brown) View of Hobby Ebberly Telescope Nearing Sundown
This photo of the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend, Texas almost looks surreal. It was taken in an area called “The Window.” Katie and Ivan Brown lived in Texas for part of their lives and find the desert incredibly beautiful. (Photo by Katie Brown) Looking through the window to the Chisos Mountains
The Gage Hotel is Marathon, Texas is the perfect place to relax. There’s nothing much to do there, but plan your day trips away and enjoy a dinner at the hotel’s Café Cenizo, the best restaurant in all of west Texas. (Photo by Katie Brown) Gage Hotel courtyard
Now this is a real vacation, right in our own back yard! What could be finer than a little early morning fishing on Lake Petit? (Photo by Lisa Schnellinger) Lake Petit Morning and Evening
Lisa Schnellinger and Tom Willard have circled the globe many, many times, but find viewing the vistas of Big Canoe’s Lake Petit a relaxing way to enjoy their sabbatical. (Photo by Lisa Schnellinger) Lake Petit Morning and Evening Vista
Soaring with your daydreams is sometimes the very best way to spend a summer vacation. (Photo by Lisa Schnellinger) Lake Petit Morning and Evening Bird
