Highlight special features of each hike

You may have noticed our kiosks at the parking areas of our trail systems.

In an effort to bring our beautiful trails to the awareness of the general population of Big Canoe, the Trails Committee, led by Larry Ponder, thought it would be nice to install kiosks with maps and information at each of the main entrances to trails and parks.

We started installing them early last year. We also created posters for these kiosks that would be informative, engaging and appealing. These posters are updated in the spring and the fall.

We believe the rich flora and bird population native to our area should be showcased, and we just so happened to have on our Committee two accomplished photographers, Randy Lewis and Bert Loftman, whose passion for plants and birding, respectively, have led them to contribute the fantastic images in our posters.

The maps, overall design and layout were provided by Liz Scherer.

Currently we have 10 main informational kiosks (eight large and two small ones). In addition, we have five small kiosks with maps only for the neighborhood access to Nature Valley, Meditation Park and McDaniel Meadows.

To find out the location of each of the main kiosks, pick up a copy of the new Trails Brochure at the post office, Fitness Center or Canoe Lodge.

As the parks grow and evolve, so do our posters. New trails, amenities and points of interest continue to get featured in our kiosks, thus promoting people's continued enjoyment of the carefully designed and maintained trails and parks of Big Canoe.
