Next time your errands take you off the reservation to Jasper, work in a lunch or dinnertime visit to the newest café on Main Street.

Having been fans of the Three Sisters Café for about a year, and The Crow's Nest before that, we were recently very surprised to see a name change there to 61 Main. The Three Sisters are no more, and Chef/Owner Jenna Schreiber has taken over the helm.

Of the 75 trade/media that attended the 2nd Annual Syrah Symposium April 21-22 in Santa Ynez, Calif., 45% noted they were most interested in Syrah from U.S. producers and all (100%) noted the perception of quality was improving."

Tiger Mountain Vineyards ' wines are now listed at four of  the state's famous five-star restaurants: Bacchanalia and Quinones in Atlanta , The Cloister in Sea Island and the Ritz-Carlton Dining Room in Buckhead.

Sunday Brunch at the Clubhouse at Lake Sconti on August 31 was a delightful experience.

As is often the case, all the reservations for brunch were taken, so we were lucky to get a table when we called a day or two before.  But, think ahead, and plan to treat yourself one of these Sundays.

The new Clubhouse is a cheerful place, and beautiful, with spectacular views from any angle. 

That we knew, but we didn't realize what a good brunch they're serving-and very reasonably priced, I might add. 

 Offerings were many, from waffles, omelets, bacon or sausage and waffles, through a complete meal with fruit, salads (I thought the balsamic vinaigrette particularly tasty), and several entrees.

Wine scores a touchdown at your tailgate party

tailgatefood2_200Throughout Georgia college football roars back onto the web page and sports blogs in August with Georgia Tech's first game at 7:30 PM on Thursday, August 28 at Tech in Atlanta.

Two days later Georgia and Georgia Southern play between the hedges on Saturday, August 30 in Athens.  

With Georgia rated number one in the coach's poll it would be most satisfying to roam the pre-game tailgate parties and sample the culinary delights and perhaps a few alcoholic drinks in Athens.
